One week from the launch of A DIFFERENT KIND OF ENEMY — and three ways to win a Spy Swag Prize Pack to celebrate!

Book two in my “Different Kind” series is about to be released (on May 19, 2026) and I’m celebrating with 10 amazing Spy Swag Pack prizes that you can win in one of three ways:

1) Order a signed copy of A DIFFERENT KIND OF ENEMY from one of these six awesome Queer and/or Queer-Friendly independent bookstores by Jun 19, 2026 and you’ll be entered in a drawing to win that store’s Spy Swag Prize Pack!

Pages: A Bookstore in Manhattan Beach, CA

Judging By the Cover in Fresno, CA

Under the Umbrella in Salt Lake City, UT

Queer Haven Books in Columbia, SC

Unabridged Bookstore in Chicago, IL

High Five Books in Florence, MA

2) Make some fan art of Sam and/or Nico, something spy-ish, Queer teens saving-the-world, whatever inspires you from the book in art form and share it with me by Jun 19… Tag me on Instagram or Bluesky, tag We Need Diverse Books as well, and if you aren’t on social media, you can email me the art at leewind (at) roadrunner (dot) com. Note that only human-made art will be considered for the three fan-art Spy Swag Pack prizes.

3) Come to the online Pride Publication Party and Spy Swag Prize Pack Contest Awards event on Saturday Jun 20 (at 10am Pacific) and someone who attends live will be randomly chosen as the winner of the 10th Spy Swag Pack Prize! You can RSVP here for the Pride Publication Party.

The Spy Swag Prize Pack is, well, packed with very cool things:

Spy Swag Prize Pack contents, showing the custom keychain with charms representing Sam, Nico, and their adventures, signed bookplate, special edition hardcover of A DIFFERENT KIND OF BRAVE, character cards from A DIFFERENT KIND OF BRAVE of both Sam and Nico, the new character card showing both Sam and Nico for A DIFFERENT KIND OF ENEMY, the James Bond Movie Encyclopedia from the same publisher - Chicago Review Press, and an invisible ink pen with UV light so you can write your own secret spy messages!

Oh, and if you haven’t gotten a chance to read up on what the story is about yet, the logline is:

In this sequel to A Different Kind of Brave, newlywed gay teens (and new spies) Nico and Sam have only six days before a possible alien invasion. Together they’re going to have to save the world—and their marriage.

Early reviews are really strong:
“The Bond references and cool gadgetry abound in this fast-paced sequel.” —Kirkus Reviews
“A resonant thriller that’s full of thrills and sensuality…” —Foreword Reviews
“This is the book series I wish had been around when I was a teenager… Whatever your age, if this ever-changing world in which we’re livin’ makes you give in and cry, pick up this reminder of queer joy.” —David Lowbridge-Ellis, MBE, License to Queer

Thanks for celebrating with me!

The light in me recognizes and acknowledges the light in you,

Lee
