Senior Prom – a powerful 14 minute film about LGBTQ+ Seniors (a.k.a. Retirees) getting the prom of their dreams

Selected as a PBS Voices short film and an official documentary short of a few film festivals, Senior Prom was created by Filmmaker Luisa Conlon and produced by the queer, female-led production company Cousins.

You can watch the short film and learn more at https://seniorpromfilm.com/

It got me really emotional about three times – I really recommend you check it out.

Two quotes from the Los Angeles LGBT Center article about the film screening at the LGBTQ retirement community where the prom takes place annually:

“I thought it would just be about the prom, but you told us so much about our lives,” senior Rusty Santangelo told Conlon during the post-film discussion. “It really reaches hearts and minds. You gave the background that explained the significance of it.”

Filmmaker Conlon said, “I think a lot of people can really relate to this experience of not being able to go to their own proms. I think it’s starting a lot of conversations with young people who don’t know their history. It’s been a very fulfilling experience for me, and I’m just happy that people seem to be liking it.”

I’m so grateful this “senior” prom exists, and that this film was made. My thanks to everyone featured, and to the filmmaking team!

Let me and the community know your thoughts about the film in comments!
