We Donated More Than 70 Copies of “No Way, They Were Gay?” to LGBTQIA2+ Teens!

Thank you, community!

Here I am, surrounded by the donated copies!

I’m so excited to share that this week the copies were delivered to the team at Brave Trails, this amazing nonprofit that’s building the next generation of LGBTQ+ youth leaders!

The donations of my latest book, “No Way, They Were Gay? Hidden Lives and Secret Loves” came from a lot of sources: My publisher (the awesome folks at Lerner) donated 20 copies. I donated 18 of my author copies. And a lot of generous folks in the community pitched in to purchase 33 additional copies from my wonderful local indie bookstore, Pages: A Bookstore in Manhattan Beach, California, to donate as well.

That adds up to 71 copies!

It’s emotional for me, because I realize the impact knowing even ONE of the stories of men who loved men, women who loved women, people who loved without regard to gender, and people who lived outside gender boundaries would have had on me as a closeted 11 year old gay boy. Or closeted 15 year old gay teen. Or closeted 20 year old gay young adult. As I’ve said before, I don’t have a time machine to go back and tell my younger self – so the book is my way of paying it forward for young people today.

And knowing these 71 copies will get into the hands of young Queer people – that’s a wonderful feeling.

Thank you, one and all, for helping make this happen.

The light in me recognizes and acknowledges the light in you,
Lee
